National review sets priorities to strengthen dengue preparedness

A National Dengue Review carried out this year has identified priorities to strengthen Sri Lanka’s preparedness and response to dengue, with support from the World Health Organization.

The review looked at surveillance, case management, vector control and community engagement, areas that health authorities say are critical as monsoon rains raise the risk of outbreaks.

The public is urged to inspect homes, schools and workplaces weekly and remove any containers that collect water, where mosquitoes breed. Anyone with a fever lasting more than two days is advised to seek medical advice early and avoid self-medication.
