Digital Economy Deputy Minister Eranga Weeraratne says Sri Lanka has the potential to become a fintech hub for South Asia, building on the country’s existing digital payment infrastructure.

Speaking ahead of the Sri Lanka FinTech Festival, he said the ministry intends to grow the festival into a regional event that draws more foreign companies to showcase their solutions in Colombo.

The government is also working on a strategy for data centres that would serve local demand while positioning Sri Lanka as a regional hub for AI and data services.

Industry leaders say clear regulation, investor confidence and a strong talent pipeline will be key to turning the ambition into results.
